The End: Freedom!
How Can We Break Free From Our Bondage?
Freedom is something that a lot of us take for granted. We can walk down the street and do what we want, when we want and we can say just about anything we want.
It wasn’t always like that. Our forefathers gained their freedom when they came to this country. Our ancestors fought for their freedom in wars. Our country once divided over freedom. Freedom is a privilege and something we think about this month because of Independence Day.
Our religious freedom, our political freedom, even our educational… Read more
The Push Ups
There was a boy by the name of Steve who was attending Seminary in Utah. In this Seminary classes are held during school hours. Brother Christianson taught Seminary at this particular school. He had an open-door policy and would take in any student that had been thrown out of another class as long as they would abide by his rules. Steve had been kicked out of his sixth period and no other teacher wanted him, so he went into Brother Christianson’s Seminary class.
Steve was told that he could not be late, so he arrived just seconds before the bell… Read more
The Carpenter
An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house-building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife, enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.
The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It… Read more
Who’s Packing Your Parachute?
Sometimes in the daily challenges that life gives us, we miss what’s really important. We may fail to say hello, please, or thank you, congratulate someone on something wonderful that has happened to them, give a compliment, or just do something nice for no reason.
Charles Plumb, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, was a jet pilot in Vietnam. After 75 combat missions, his plane was destroyed by a surface-to-air missile. Plumb ejected and parachuted into enemy hands. He was captured and spent 6 years in a communist Vietnamese prison. He survived the ordeal and now lectures on lessons learned from… Read more
The Brick
A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his
new Jaguar.
He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something.
As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag’s side door!
He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown.
The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, “What was… Read more
Fire
For Father’s Day this year we got my husband, Lou a new gas grill. He was using it for the first time on our front porch (as he and our son Steven were doing some work to the deck). Well the hamburgers tasted so good that we all wanted a second one. So he went back out to cook another batch. Through the window I could see flames shooting up from the grill, which is expected sometimes from the grease. Everyone who cooks on a grill knows that the flames are hard to control sometimes. Well before too long a… Read more

I Saw Jesus
I saw Jesus last week.
He was wearing blue jeans and an old shirt.
He was up at the church building;
He was alone and working hard.
For just a minute He looked a little like one of our members.
But it was Jesus,
I could tell by His smile.
I saw Jesus last Sunday.
He was teaching a Bible class.
He didn’t talk real loud or use long words,
But you could tell He believed what He said.
For just a minute, He looked like my Sunday School teacher.
