Providing a Drink of Living Water to a dry and thirsty World

The End: Seek God While He May Be Found

Even today we reflect upon the events of 9-11-01 and we realize how fragile our lives are. Despite all our power and all our wealth as Americans we find that we are still vulnerable. We are uncomfortable with these thoughts. The unknown, the uncertainties of life make us aware of our human frailties. We would prefer to be self-sufficient. We would like to be the “stand on our own two feet, pull yourself up by your own bootstraps” kind of people.

Somewhere along the line we bought into the lie of the devil that depending upon God is a form… Read more

Devil’s Beatitudes

Blessed are they who are too tired and too busy to go to church on Sunday, for they are my best workers.

Blessed are they who are bored with the minister’s mannerisms and mistakes, for they get nothing out of the sermon.

Blessed is the church member who expects to be invited to his own church for he is part of the problem instead of the solution.

Blessed are they, who gossip, for they cause strife and divisions that please me.

Blessed are they who are easily offended, for they soon get angry and quit.

Blessed are they who do… Read more

Yes, I Can, Sir!

A friend of ours was facing cancer in their family and I ask the Lord for something to say that would minister to them not realizing that I would get a word for me. As I prayed the Lord asked, “Can you trust Me with cancer?” Without hesitation, I answered, “Yes I can, Sir.”

Then it hit me “Yes, I can-Cer.” Then He asked, “Can I trust you with cancer to praise and give Me glory no matter what the outcome is?” My answer was, “I hope You can, Sir.”

I love it when He gives me a play on… Read more

The Answer Is In The Soil

While standing in line at the local plant nursery, I could not help but notice the woman in front of me. Her face was flushed as she held up her wilted plant to the customer service desk. “I need a bigger container,” she said.

Like a doctor examining a sick patient, the customer service manager cupped the lifeless plant in her hand. “The answer,” she said, pointing down the aisle of plant food and nutrients, “is not in the container, but in the soil.” How true this is for us as believers, also!

So often, we get overworked and nearly… Read more

Tell Them Now

Jake McLean had had a hard day at work, but he was finally able to sit down and relax. He turned on the TV and the first thing he saw was a minister. He was talking about how people can act like the perfect Christian as far as attitude goes, but how they still may have never accepted Jesus.

This made Jake think about his best friend Mike Johnson. Mike was the kind of person that would do anything in the world to help someone out, but Jake knew that Mike had never been saved. For the next week, the… Read more

The Body of Christ

When I was in need…
And had no one to turn to;

When I was alone…
And had no shoulder to cry on;

When I was hurt…
And had no one to apply a bandage;

When my heart was broken…
And had no one to mend it;

When my tears flowed…
And I had no one to catch them;

When I was empty…
And had no way to be filled;

When I needed ministered to…
God met my need – through YOU!

When I was in need…
And had no one to… Read more

The Man with the Shoes

My alarm went off-it was Sunday again;
I was tired – it was my one day to sleep in.
But the guilt I’d have felt the rest of the day
Would have been too much, so I’d go; I’d pray.

I showered and shaved, adjusted suit and tie,
Got there and swung into a pew just in time.
Bowing my head in humble prayer before I closed my eyes,
I saw that the shoe of the man next to me was touching my own and I sighed.

With plenty of room on either side,Read more

Faith

A small congregation in the foothills of the Great Smokies built a new sanctuary on a piece of land willed to them by a church member. Ten days before the new church was to open, the local building inspector informed the pastor that the parking lot was inadequate for the size of the building. Until the church doubled the size of the parking lot, they would not be able to use the new sanctuary. Unfortunately, the church with its undersized parking lot had used every inch of their land except for the mountain against which it had been built. In… Read more

A Crummy Lesson

Mrs. Baughman was my 6th grade Sunday School teacher. One morning, she brought a pan of brownies to our class. As the goodies sat over by her chair, she gave each child a slip of paper marked with a household expense: house payment, utility bill, phone bill, entertainment, etc. My slip had a car payment.

Before long, she picked up the tray of brownies and began naming the expenses written on the papers.

As we gave her our expenses, she redeemed each one for a brownie. “Car payment” she announced. I jumped up to get my brownie from the pan.… Read more

Science vs. Creation

One day a group of eminent scientists got together and decided that Man had come a long way and no longer needed God. So they picked one scientist to go and tell Him that they were done with Him.

The scientist walked up to God and said, “God, we’ve decided that we no longer need You. We’re to the point that we can clone people and do many miraculous things, so why don’t You just retire?”

God listened very patiently to the man and then said, “Very well, but first, how about this, let’s have a Man-making contest.” To which… Read more
