The End: Love
What is love? Love to me is commitment. Love is denying myself and putting others first. Love is when you’ve done me wrong, I forgive you and let it go. Love is when I give you something that causes you to be comfortable, but in the giving it makes me uncomfortable. Love is going beyond my own strength to help you out. Love is standing up against an enemy for your sake.
You might say, “Right, no one here can meet all of that.” You are absolutely right. But, I can tell you about someone who can meet it… Read more
Be My Valentine
Red roses were her favorites, her name was also Rose.
And every year her husband sent them, tied with pretty bows.
The year he died, the roses were delivered to her door.
The card said, “Be my Valentine”, like all the years before.
Each year he sent her roses, and the note would always say,
“I love you even more this year, than last year on this day.
My love for you will always grow, with every passing year.”
She knew this was the last time that the roses would appear.
She… Read more
Thank You For The Thorns
Sandra felt as low as the heels of her Birkenstocks as she pushed against a November gust and the florist shop door. Her life had been easy, like a Spring breeze. Then in the fourth month of her second pregnancy, a minor Automobile accident stole her ease. During this Thanksgiving week she would have delivered a son. She grieved over her loss. As if that weren’t enough her husband’s company threatened a transfer. Then her sister, whose holiday visit she coveted, called saying she could not come. What’s worse, Sandra’s friend infuriated her by suggesting her grief was a God-given… Read more

Spinning Your Wheels?
by Fred Thompson
Here’s some good advice to follow: If you’re ever stuck in the snow, avoid spinning your wheels. That will only dig your vehicle in deeper. Instead, shovel the snow out of the wheel paths for several feet; spread kitty litter, sand, cinders, or tree branches under the drive wheels; point the wheels straight ahead and slowly accelerate. Good advice for winter driving, but there’s something spiritual here.
Christians and non-Christians alike get stuck in a place. Often it’s a lonely place of unforgiveness and hopelessness, dark and slippery. We can’t seem to get out. Our… Read more
Grace
The boy stood with his back arched, head cocked back and hands clenched defiantly. “Go ahead, give it to me.”
The principal looked down at the young rebel. “How many times have you been here?”
The child sneered rebelliously, “Apparently not enough.”
The principal gave the boy a strange look. “And you have been punished each time have you not?”
“Yeah, I been punished, if that’s what you want to call it.” He threw out his small chest, “Go ahead I can take whatever you dish out. I always have.”
“And no thought of… Read more
Love
February – the world celebrates this as the month of love. Isn’t that kind of sad, only one month of love? On Valentine’s Day, the day of love, the world decorates with hearts and cupids. Boxes of candy and flowers are given. Did you realize all that the world gives out for this month is not lasting? It is there for a fleeting moment and then it is all over. Even the line they hand out saying that diamonds are forever – sorry they are not.
But, with Christ love is more than just one month. The gift that… Read more
Making a Difference
February 14th is the day the nation celebrates Valentine’s Day, the day of love, but it is the day we celebrate my birthday. On your birthday, when you turn a year older, you might think about your life and wonder if you’ve made a difference in the world. I’ve already started thinking about this.
Two weeks ago we got a telephone call on a Sunday afternoon from our 9 year old son Steven’s principal from school. His teacher had died suddenly that morning and they were calling all the kids’ parents to ease the shock of the children… Read more
From the Editor
You’re probably saying right now, “I just got an issue and now I’m getting another one?” Because we got so far behind schedule over the Christmas holidays we considered doing a joint issue (January/February) but after speaking to several people who said “we’d be missing a whole month’s worth of these good stories,” we decided to publish them separately. But to get caught up you will be receiving three issues very close together.
Now for an update on the status of the ministry. After several delays in registering a name for the corporation, I am pleased to announce… Read more
