I may have been a bit young when the series MacGyver was around, but there’s still one thing I know for sure: that guy could make a whole lot happen with only a little bit of “stuff.” A bit of string, a stick of gum, two paper clips, some loose change, and a lighter could get you out of just about anything from fixing a helicopter to escaping from a maximum secruity building; that is, as long as MacGyver was around to put them together in some ingenious way to make everything fall together in your favor.

Well, God has a tendency to work the same way. Do you ever feel like God is calling you from Heaven with the charge to tell the entire world about Jesus, and all you can do is look up at Him, shrug your shoulders, give Him a nervous smile, and hold up the worthless contents of your pockets? I’ve often wondered what God would plan on doing with some pocket lint, an old receipt, a half-used chap stick, and a hershey’s kiss. But I figure that it’s worth a shot to hand it over and see what He might try. Just like a little boy with a lunch he wanted to share.

Have you ever noticed that when the 5,000 were fed in John 6:1-15, it was with a child’s lunch? (It was 5,000 families, not individuals, by the way.) Even though that food as it sat in his small hands was not capable of doing much of anything, he trusted that the Man he had been following and watching do miracles for the past few days would be able to make good use of it- in ways he hadn’t though of.

And Jesus sure did make good use of it! Don’t ever feel like you have nothing to offer. If the Bible tells us that our treasures are in Heaven, why would He make certain possesions or talents a requirement to serve Him? He only requires that you make yourself willing to be used. So I encourage you empty out your pockets- and open up your heart- to the Ultimate MacGyver; with Him, there are no limits to what a little bit of your everyday can do.
